Notes & Excuses: Well, this poor finish was thanks to pushing the envelope.  We were using aluminum washers on the rear axles to reduce unsprung weight.  Good idea except they had a tendency to compress, loosening the axle nut and letting the bearing come out of the hub.

Robert Mumm and Leo Capaldi  (a Mumm Brother) celebrate on the podium at St. Pete after a 1-2 finish.
Notes & Excuses: Tightened the axles, won the race. Set a new qualifying record of: 1:19.206.

Notes & Excuses: Had a pretty good race, but it's almost impossible to beat Warren Stillwell at Mid-Ohio.  But notice I did say "almost".  Wait till 1998. (We did have fast race lap: 1:38.882).

Notes & Excuses: Fantastic race, 7 lead changes.  The bad news was that it was 100 degrees in the shade and Dave Liddle made the top three finishers pull their flywheels.

Notes & Excuses: Missed two shifts, Warren Stillwell got away and won by 3 seconds.  But now we were leading the points chase.

Notes & Excuses: Got hit on the first lap and fell back to 11th. On the way to 4th, we set a new race lap track record of: 1:03.102.

Notes & Excuses: Didn't figure out the track conditions on race day until lap 20 of 30.  After that point, set new race lap track record of: 1:09.810.  But it was too little, too late. We finished 2nd in points.
